ABOUT DRY EYES
WHAT IS DRY EYES?
Dry eyes is a general term used to describe the feeling caused by inadequate tear production or rapid evaporation of tears in your eyes.
One of the most common causes of dry eyes is Lid Margin Disease, the most common form of lid margin disease is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction or MGD which effects between 40-50% of adults. Another common form is Blephiritis which is a build up of bacteria in the eyelids/eye lashes that cause irritation of the eyes. In our Ventura CA Dry Eyes Clinic we use the latest technology called Blephex, to remove the bacterial and biofilm buildup, the Demodex mites, and unclog the meibomian glands
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF DRY EYES?
Some of the common symptoms experienced with dry eyes include:
- The feeling that something is stuck in your eye or sandy/gritty feeling.
- Discharge from the corner of your eye experienced usually when you wake up.
- Red, swollen, painful eyes, or burning eyes.
- Feeling of discomfort when using contact lenses.
- Excessive tears or inability to create tears (even when crying).
- Feeling that your eyes are tired especially after reading or computer use.
WHAT ARE THE TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR DRY EYES
Because there are a variety of reasons why someone may have dry eyes, there is no one size fits all solution. Every patient who undergoes a dry eyes eye exam at our Ventura CA dry eyes center will be given a tear film analysis. This test enables our optometrist to understand what is causing the symptoms in order to fix the underlying cause. In cases where the cause is related to clogged meibomian glands or blephiritis our optometrist may recommend using blephex to remove the cause of irritation. For many patients, contact lenses can cause discomfort with symptoms like dry eyes, in this situation our optometrist Dr. Bajwa will discuss options such as Scleral Lenses and Daily Disposables.
Our Optometrist focuses on the patient first. Our goal is to provide eye care at the highest level. Our patients always comment on the fact that our practice boasts the latest technology and that our optometrist takes his time with every patient.
We look at every patient as if they were family and value the fact that they entrust their eyecare with us. Your every question will be carefully answered and all the options will be presented to you in a clear and comfortable manner.

What Causes Dry Eyes?
We see patients all the time in our Ventura CA Dry Eye’s Clinic who think they are alone in having dry eyes symptoms. The truth is the exact opposite, the vast majority of adults experience dry eyes at some point, and that is partially due to the fact that there are so many reasons why dry eye symptoms may occur.
- Weather: Dry and windy weather, continuous usage of a fan or a heater.
- Diseases effecting the eyelids such as Meibomian Gland Disorder and Blephiritis.
- Hormonal changes due to age and contraceptive use.
- Diseases effecting the immune system such as Sjorgens, Lupus, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
- Medications such as Antihistamines, Diuretics, and Antidepressants.
- Lack of blinking or short blinks from computer and cell phone use.
- Contact lens use is often related to dry eyes, switching to special contact lenses usually improves the condition.
- Patients who have just completed eye surgery such as Lasik.
